At the top of a winding farm chase
at the entrance to Park Hall gardens hides a real gem of a cottage that once housed the
carriages for the 14th Century Hall. The Carriage House, with its magnificent floor to
ceiling windows and spectacular views across the open countryside is the perfect cottage
for romantic couples and relaxing family holidays.
The front door to the cottage opens into a
bright, cheerful porch, which provides ample space for all those walking shoes, boots and
coats, all essential prerequisites for a stay in the heart of the countryside. Passing
through the large oak arch there is a lofty hallway full of light highlighting the mass of
oak beams. An antique mirror hangs along one wall; a matching pair of cabinets with
attractive lamps invites you to enter further in.

To the right of the hall is an open plan kitchen/dining area painted in Farrow & Balls 'Hay' with Fired Earth wall tiles around the work surfaces giving a fresh, sunny feel. Here you will find every utensil you might have at home, there is even a cafetierre, Brita water filter and food processor as well as a large fridge, freezer, dishwasher, hob, oven and microwave. High above the beam running the full length of the kitchen, is a wall painting of an owl painted by local artist Allison Bond. |
Over the breakfast bar an oak leaf
chandelier sparkles and reflects the light onto the magnificent beams in the high vaulted
ceiling. You can either eat here or wander out onto the patio to dine surrounded by the
fresh green of the countryside and the scents from the flowers in bloom. At night you can
watch the sunset and maybe see an owl quartering the fields around the cottage; it is that
rural here.
| The lounge has a relaxed, inviting feel with a
large splendid window draped in generous folds of Laura Ashleys 'Winter Lily'
curtains all the way from the high ceiling to the floor, with the theme of the lilys
and the cool, green and white colours repeated throughout the room. The fireplace is the
focal point with its cast iron stove around which are gathered two armchairs and a large
sofa filled with comfortable cushions to sink into whilst watching the wildlife outside.
You may see some of the many partridge and pheasant that live on the farm or maybe even a
peacock or two passing by, perhaps stopping to admire their reflection in the large
window; they have much to admire.

To the left of the window is a nest of
tables and a colour television with integral video unit. To the right is a bookcase filled
with books, videos and CDs to play on the high quality music centre. Flowers
and thoughtfully provided magazines can be found on the large coffee table nearby. For
those that enjoy a challenge there is a cupboard filled with jigsaws, quizzes, playing
cards and games for all the family.
| All on one level, the bedrooms are situated to the left of the hall. The childrens room with its pretty bunk-beds and fully fitted wardrobe is decorated in Laura Ashleys Chambray with matching shades of lilac and blue curtains. |

The master bedroom, a honeymoon
favourite, has lavish drapes of strawberries and cream surrounding the spectacular floor
to ceiling window. The walls are painted in Farrow & Balls Straw
providing the perfect setting for the high-pitched beamed ceiling. There is a vanity
unit with a matching stool, fitted wardrobe with deep shelves and next to the full size
double bed are cabinets with water carafes, flowers and chocolates. There is even an alarm
clock, radio and hairdryer. |
The walls of the bathroom are palest
lavender; the wall tiles a gleaming white with the occasional patterned tile. There is a
bath with shower, toilet and washstand; above is a mirrored cabinet complete with dressing
room lights. Reflecting across the walls and beams are candle wall lights that highlight
the spectacularly high ceiling. A heated towel rail, luxury toiletries and matching towels
wrapped in ribbons add the final touch.
